Watkins-Nance Elementary starts new golf team
Watkins-Nance Elementary School has launched a new golf team this year to introduce students to the sport. About 20 students in grades 3–5 have joined and are receiving lessons from former professional golfer and golf program supervisor, Kevin Lyles, at the James Clyburn Golf Center.
The team practices at the James Clyburn Golf Center as they learn the basics of golf and sportsmanship.
The idea for the team began when Principal Reynard Jenkins passed the golf center located near the school. He encouraged PE teacher Amir Comer to take the lead, and Comer has run with the opportunity.
Students have grown passionate about the game with many even stoping by outside of school hours to hit golf balls and work on their swings.
