Sorority puts USC chapter on probation

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The national office of the Delta Delta Delta sorority has put its University of South Carolina chapter on probation as it investigates an off-campus house party that resulted in 31 citations for underage drinking.

The State newspaper reported (http://bit.ly/qQyol7 ) the chapter is prohibited from participating in social events while on probation.

A spokeswoman for Delta Delta Delta says a sorority official will travel to Columbia next week to meet with college officials and chapter members.

Police say they wrote the citations at the party for the 21st birthday of one of residents of the home rented by a sorority member. The newspaper reports those cited include the chapter’s 20-year-old treasurer.

USC suspended fraternities’ new member process last month, citing alcohol violations. Fraternities in good standing resumed rush a week later.
