Pre-K students at Bradley Elementary surprised with bicycles
COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — Pre-Kindergartners at Bradley Elementary School were asked to cover their eyes as they made their way into the gymnasium for the big reveal.
The children opened their eyes to find they were being gifted a bicycle to take home — complete with training wheels and a helmet.
“I was sad in the classroom and I couldn’t wait and when I opened my eyes…I was like…I was like…super happy,” says Pre-K student Bryant Burkett.
Co-teacher Michelle Moorehead says getting the bicycles was as easy as reaching out to Mavis Tires & Brakes to see if they’d like to help.
“After a few conversations, they made it happen. And we’re so excited that they did,” says Moorehead.
Within seconds, the kids were racing around the P.E. room, enjoying their new rides.
“In Pre-Kindergarten, we have a unit, and it’s entitled ‘Bicycles.’ So this is very, very age appropriate, and not just that — it’s learning in progress. So we wanted to make this come full circle for our students, and also for our school. And we just want to thank Mavis for making this happen for us,” says Lead teacher Andrea Goodwin.
Lee Frucci is the Regional Director for Mavis, and Craig Harvey is the Regional Training Manager.
“I remember my first bike and staring at it for eight hours, and just looking at every detail of it, and being that excited,” says Frucci.
“When I see their smiling faces, it makes me wonder, ‘Wow,’ I remember when I got my first bike, so I can only imagine what they feel like right now,” says Harvey.
It’s a moment that both students and staff won’t soon forget. “It is such a joy to see our boys and girls with smiles on their faces. It warms our hearts. We feel that as a school we’re a giving school so we just love to keep on giving and giving and giving for our boys and girls. So to have a partnership with Mavis tire company and for them to bring in all of these bikes for our class, we’re just overjoyed. We’re just so happy about it,” says Dr. Kezia Myers, Principal at Bradley Elementary.
