New trail enhancement to officially open in Fairfield County

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– South Carolina is known for its many beautiful places including the Palmetto Trail.

Since the trail’s first passage opened in 1996, the goal to provide outdoor enthusiasts 500 miles of connected trails from the Upstate to the coast remains unchanged.

410 miles are now complete, and next month a new trail enhancement will officially open in Fairfield County.

The estimated cost to complete all planned work at the Alston trailhead is $8.6 million.

The entire Palmetto Trail is funded through individual support grants and some funding from the South Carolina Legislature.
