SLED investigates officer involved Greenville County shooting

 

 

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating an officer involved shooting after a man pulled up to a parked patrol car, and opened fire on the officer inside.

SLED released a video on Monday, Jan. 13, 2026, showing what happened early Sunday morning, Jan. 12, 2026, at the Greenville County Law Enforcement Center.

In the video someone is shown driving up to the patrol car and began shooting before driving away.

Agents say emergency crews took the injured Greenville Police officer to the hospital where he was treated and released.

According to SLED, Greenville County deputies located the driver’s car.

After a brief chase, during which gunfire was exchanged SLED says there was a crash involving deputies and the man, and another exchange of gunfire.

Police officers found the man who was identified by the Greenville County coroner as 42-year-old David William Lane inside the car dead.

The coroner says Lane died from a self-inflicted gun shot wound, and ruled his death a suicide.

SLED’s investigation into the officer involved shooting is ongoing.
