Newberry County domestic violence incident turns into early morning standoff

 

 

 

NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Newberry County deputies say a domestic violence incident turned into a standoff early Tuesday morning (Jan. 27, 2026).

Investigators say they responded to a home on St. Phillips Church Road around two this morning.

Deputies say a man had assaulted his daughter and was holding his girlfriend inside the house at gunpoint.

At around four in the morning, deputies say the suspect who was identified as 50-year-old Kenneth Coffey was taken into custody.

He has been charged with domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, kidnapping, and possession of a weapon by a person prohibited.
