Layoffs expected for The Washington Post staff

(CNN)– Widespread layoffs are expected at The Washington Post in coming weeks.

The Post has endured several tumultuous years and previous rounds of staff reductions.

Some reporters are making unusual public pleas.

They are writing to Jeff Bezos, the publisher’s owner, in an effort to urge him to not shrink the newsroom.

In one letter, the newspaper’s White House reporters appeal to Bezos with data about how to grow the Post.

A second letter, from more than two dozen DC area beat reporters, emphasized the importance of local coverage.
