South Carolina gas prices rise 5.6 cents, still shy of $3 a gallon in most areas
(WCIV) — The average price of gas rose in the past week, inching the state’s average closer toward $3 per gallon, but not quite over the precipice.
According to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,028 stations in South Carolina, gas prices rose 5.6 cents, with prices now sitting 7.0 cents higher than a month ago but 23.8 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.
Price reports state that the cheapest station in South Carolina was priced at $2.09 per gallon on Sunday, while the most expensive was $3.49 per gallon. This massive near $1.50 difference will likely prompt motorists to do a bit of hunting around for the best prices before settling on a station.
Meanwhile the national price of gasoline has risen 1.2 cents per gallon in the last week, matching the Lowcountry in an average that sits at $2.84 per gallon Monday.
This average is reportedly up 5.4 cents per gallon from a month ago and currently stands 24.9 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.
“The national average price of gasoline only edged slightly higher last week, but nine of the ten largest weekly price movements were increases, led by West Coast states as California begins the transition to summer gasoline,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “Even though oil prices slipped slightly last week amid reduced geopolitical risk, strengthening seasonal factors are likely to intensify, potentially driving the national average back above the $3-per-gallon mark, where prices could remain for at least part of the spring.”
