Fort Mill teen dies; truck pinned him against tree

FORT MILL, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a 15-year-old boy has died after he was pinned against a tree by a pickup truck at his Fort Mill home.

Investigators said Clifton Carter’s parents called 911 around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday after finding him in the yard.

Authorities think he had been pinned against the tree for several hours.

Carter was a sophomore at Fort Mill High School and played for the school’s soccer team. His death was announced at the school Tuesday morning, followed by a moment of silence. Grief counselors were at the school to talk to students.
