SLED charges former custody officer in abuse of vulnerable adult case
RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A 23-year-old was charged with abuse of a vulnerable adult on Wednesday, says SLED.
Javin Lashaun Carter-Wicks was charged on February 25, 2026.
The SLED investigation resulted from a notification from Wellpath Recovery Solutions.
According to an arrest warrant, Carter-Wicks is accused of hitting a victim with a shield causing the person to hit a wall.
The victim is a patient at Wellpath Recovery Solutions, and is considered a vulnerable adult.
Carter-Wicks was working at Wellpath Recovery Solutions at that time as a custody officer.
He was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County.
SLED also previously charged Gregory Marcel Higgins, 44, with abuse of a vulnerable adult on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, in connection with this case.
