Charleston base honors former POWS and MIAs
JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Former prisoners of war and those missing in action are being honored in events at Joint Base Charleston.
More than 100 service personnel, Department of Defense workers, family members and Joint Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets begin a 24-hour vigil run Thursday afternoon. They will run in hour-long increments in teams of four through Friday afternoon.
Members of the base honor guard will participate in a special ceremony marking the delivery of a POW/MIA flag after the run.
More than 20 former prisoners of war from South Carolina will attend a recognition luncheon Friday.
Later Friday, there will be a ceremony including a wreath laying, the playing of “Taps,” a three-volley rifle salute and a flyover by C-17 aircraft.
