New MRI scanner unveiled at University of South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– The University of South Carolina is now home to new state-of-the-art medical equipment in its brain health center.

Monday morning, April 20,2026, university officials unveiled the 7-Tesla MRI scanner.

Officials say the scanner is the only one of its kind in South Carolina.

And also, it is one of the most advanced brain imaging tools available to support diagnosis and treatment of patients experiencing neurological conditions.

The scanner will support accurate neurological diagnoses and accelerate research into complex brain conditions.
