Near total abortion ban passes Senate Medical Committee
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A near total abortion ban in South Carolina is one step closer to becoming law.
Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the Senate Medical Affairs Committee voted to advance the measure to the full senate.
The bill does not include exceptions for rape, incest, or fatal fetal diagnosis.
In addition, under the bill a person who has an abortion can be charged with a crime and sent to prison.
The Senate could take up the bill as soon as Wednesday, April 22.
