South Carolina Governor’s Volunteer Awards honorees receive awards at State House
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– The 2026 South Carolina Governor’s Volunteer Awards were handed out to honorees this morning at the State House.
Eleven recipients made up of nonprofit and volunteer champions were recognized for their dedication and service on Weds, April 22.
Handed out by Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette, the awards are considered the highest honor given to a volunteer in the Palmetto State.
ABC Columbia spoke with this year’s Lifetime of Service winner, 89-year-old Tom Russell who founded The Children’s Cancer Partners of the Carolinas as well as the organization’s Executive Director Laura Allen, who nominated him.
Volunteer administrators from across the state choose each year’s winners.
