Newberry County deputies arrest man following high-speed chase

NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Newberry County deputies have arrested a man following a high-speed chase Saturday, April 25.

According to investigators, a deputy attempted to pull over 26-year-old Jose Salas Jr. for speeding on CR Koon Highway, when he fled from law enforcement.

During the chase, Salas was seen discarding a bag containing a powdery substance from the vehicle.

The chase continued onto SC Highway 773 then onto I-26.

Prior to the peak exit Salas lost control and struck the median dividing wall.

He attempted to arm himself when a Richland County K9 was deployed.

Salas was apprehended and taken into custody.

He faces several charges and is being held at the Newberry County Detention Center.
