The winner, who does not wish to be identified, told South Carolina Education Lottery officials that after spending his day having new tires put on his car, he stopped at the Sumter Stop on S. Guignard Dr. in Sumter to play the lottery.

“I was on the way home and something told me to stop and get two tickets,” he says.

The first ticket he scratched wasn’t a winner, but the second ticket revealed a half-a-million-dollar payday.

It was the first top prize in the Lottery’s new $10 Winning Spree game, say officials.

He plans to save the $500,000 for retirement.
