Lt. Gov Evette remains defiant after removal as university’s keynote speaker
ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– The lieutenant governor is remaining unapologetic in her comments both before and after she was removed as commencement speaker for South Carolina State University’s upcoming graduation.
Weds, April 29, 2026, University President Alexander Conyers released a statement announcing Evette would be replaced as the keynote speaker.
Conyers says the decision was made out of an abundance of caution for safety.
Speaking Thurs, April 30, Evette says the decision to move in a different direction and the protests against her are examples of indoctrination on campus.
South Carolina State’s Spring Commencement Ceremony will take place May 8.
There has been no word as of yet on who will replace Evette as keynote speaker.
