More states join anti-trust lawsuit to block Nexstar-Tegna merger

(CNN)– An antitrust lawsuit to block the Nexstar-Tegna merger now has bipartisan support.

Republican attorneys general in Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Kansas have joined the legal challenge.

So have two more democratic state attorneys general in Massachusetts and Vermont.

Thursday, April 30, 2026, California’s attorney general said the bipartisan effort proves the move to stop the mega-merger is not controversial.

The states are concerned the deal will shrink local news coverage.

But Nexstar calls the lawsuit “misguided” and argues newsrooms will actually close if consolidation is not allowed.
