Gamecocks fall in opening round of SEC Tournament
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The South Carolina softball team (30-27) fell in the opening round of the SEC Tournament Tuesday night (May 5) to Ole Miss (33-23) 2-0.
Four different players had a hit for the Gamecocks. Jori Heard (11-11) took the loss after allowing two runs on six hits and striking out two in six innings. Emma Friedel came on for the final inning and retired all three batters she faced.
Ole Miss jumped out in front with a solo home run in the top of the first with two outs. They added the other run in the fifth on a single and double.
South Carolina had runners in scoring position in the first and sixth innings, both coming with two outs in the frame.
Arianna Rodi drew a walk in the second inning to give her 46 on the year, second all-time in program history. It also moved her into sole possession of sixth place on the career list with 95.
The Gamecocks now wait to hear their name called Sunday during the NCAA Selection Show at 7 p.m. Watch party information will be announced later.
