Richland County to conduct controlled burns in Old Bluff Road area
RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Richland County officials say staff with the Richland County Conservation Commission will conduct prescribed burns on select conservation properties.
The prescribed burns on select conservation properties will happen in the Old Bluff Road area of Southeast Richland from Saturday, May 16, to Saturday, May 30.
Burning operations will take place early in the day and end at sundown.
While burning is ongoing, residents in the area might notice smoke drifting beyond conservation property boundaries, say county officials.
All prescribed burns will be conducted under permits issued by the S.C. Forestry Commission and will follow strict safety and weather guidelines.
County officials say, controlled burns remove excess vegetation, often referred to as hazardous fuels that can accumulate over time and increase fire danger.
