Supreme Court allows Vermont to sue Meta over social media addiction

(CNN)– The Supreme Court issued a blow to Meta Tuesday, May 26, that could impact other tech companies.

The justices refused to review a decision from Vermont’s Supreme Court that allows the state to pursue claims against the social media company.

Vermont’s attorney general is suing Instagram claiming it violated state law intended to curb social media addiction.

But Meta argues the state’s courts don’t have jurisdiction to review the case.

The Supreme Court allowing the case to move forward could impact cases brought by other states.
