Revolutionary War soldier remains identified
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– As the country celebrates our 250th anniversary, USC researchers helped identify a teenage Revolutionary War soldier.
A USC spokesperson says the hero’s name was John Pumphrey.
The 14-year-old was killed by musket fire during the Battle of Camden.
Nearly 250 years later, USC experts with the Institute of Archeology and Anthropology say they were able to identify the 14-year-old through the use of DNA technology.
Pumphrey and other soldiers’ remains were re-buried in the nearby quaker cemetery with full military honors.
