COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — According to the Columbia Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting at the 1100 block of Hampton Street in downtown Columbia where one man had suffered a fatal gunshot wound Saturday.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Matthew A. Konwinski II, 31, of Lexington.

Police say Xavier T. Bethea was arrested and has been charged with voluntary manslaughter and possession of a weapon during  the commission of a violent crime.

Officers believe Bethea and Konwinski II were involved in a verbal altercation before the shooting took place.
