Richland County man sentenced in relation to illegally possessing firearm

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A Columbia man has been sentenced to more than four years in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm, says the DOJ.

Evidence obtained during the investigation revealed that on March 29, 2024, officers with the Columbia Police Department (CPD) conducted a lawful traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Davante Jamar Moore, 34, of Columbia.

During the stop, a CPD K9 became alert to the scent of narcotics, says the SCDOJ.

When officers searched the vehicle, they located a yellow backpack with a plastic bag containing marijuana, various bags, a scale, container with white powder inside, and a loaded firearm.

Moore is prohibited from possessing firearms based upon previous convictions for strong arm robbery and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.

He was sentenced to 57 months’ imprisonment which is to be followed by a three-year term of court-ordered supervision.
