Chapin Council Protest Accusations Being Investigated

(WOLO) CHAPIN,S.C., — Emotions were running high during Tuesday night’s Town Council meeting in Chapin. Members of the council walked out in protest over the suspension and then re-installation of town clerk Adrienne Thompson who was not in attendance. A crowd full of residents packed the building creating a line that flowed into the hallway of chambers. Many of them with mixed emotions about the accusations of ethics violations and misappropriations of funds by the town clerk, according to Mayor Skip Wilson. Mayor Wilson claiming Thompson made purchases in excess of the town hall spending limit without approval, making purchases on her personal credit card for which she wants to be reimbursed but without proper documentation…even claiming she paid for a hotel room for her spouse on the taxpayers’ dime. An investigation by SLED into the accusations is ongoing.
