Even tougher rules proposed for Beaufort Carriages
BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) — The city of Beaufort is proposing even stricter rules in an effort to end the so-called “carriage wars” between the city’s two carriage companies.
City council has given initial approval to new rules but The Beaufort Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/nkGKDza ) a committee has recommended additions based on comments about the initial regulations.
Under the additions, a carriage company could lose its license if it defaces city property or tampers with another company’s equipment. Companies could also lose their licenses if they mark urine spills on the street where none have occurred or if they manually put manure on the street.
A city police officer working as the tour vehicle coordinator says she has either documented such incidents or had reports of them.
City Council considers the rules next week.
