Treasury Department to buy back $6 billion in gov bonds

(CNN)– The U.S. Treasury Department says it will buy back up to $6 billion in government bonds Thursday, September 10.

That means it’ll be roughly triple the size of the standard operation amount.

The buyback is an effort to tame surging treasury bond yields.

Those make borrowing money more expensive, and can exacerbate concerns about the cost of living.

The treasury announced the buyback last month but did not give an amount at that time.
