Around 9:20 p.m. on Weds, September 16, while on the way to the fire, firefighters were told that someone could still be inside the home.

When they arrived to the scene, firefighters saw visible smoke and flames before searching the house, and rescuing one male occupant.

Medical aid was given to him at the scene, and Lexington County EMS took the individual to a local hospital.

The fire was contained in roughly 15 minutes, states the fire department.

The West Columbia Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office is looking into the cause of the fire.

Firefighters asked that people continue to keep your smoke alarms working at home and practice your escape plan.
