SC State University placed on probation

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– SC State University is being placed on Probation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. According to a release from University President Thomas J. Elzey, probationary status is more critical than the previous “Warning” status. In a statement released Elzey writes, with probation, the university will have a site team visit spring 2015. The university can remain on probation for two years before a decision is made about membership. “I want to first assure the SC State University family that our accreditation remains intact with SACS COC. Again, we remain fully accredited.” ” Due to our serious financial situation, we knew that this would be a possibility, but we are viewing it as an opportunity to continue to get our financial affairs in order”, Elzey said in the statement.
