Fire Kills Child, Injures 6 in Williamsburg County

HEMINGWAY, S.C. (AP) _ Authorities say a 7-year-old girl is dead in a Williamsburg County fire. Investigators say six other people were able to escape the fire around 4 a.m. Tuesday at a home west of Hemingway. Some of them were critically injured. Authorities say a grandmother and grandfather were taking care of five of their grandchildren when the fire started. The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the cause of the blaze.
