Special election set to fill SC state House seat

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) — A special election is scheduled for Berkeley County to fill a vacant seat in the South Carolina House of Representatives.

The Tuesday election in the largely rural House District 100 pits Republican Eddy Southard against Democrat Tonia Aiken-Taylor.

The seat was left vacant in May by the death of Republican state Rep. David Umphlett.
