Reserve F Steele out 8 weeks with knee injury

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina backup forward Brian Steele will be out eight weeks with a right knee injury.

Gamecocks coach Frank Martin said Steele, a junior, hurt his knee during workouts and had surgery last week.

Steele, from Greenville, averaged 2.2 points a game in 22 appearances last season. Steele was named to the team as a walk-on two years ago. He played seven games as a freshman in 2012-13, starting the final four contests. He was a 40 percent shooter off the bench a year ago for South Carolina.
