Police: Woman tried to throw 4-year-old over fence

SPARANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Spartanburg County deputies say a woman who saw a mother try to throw her 4-year-old child over a fence after wrecking her car managed to talk the woman out of hurting her son.

Investigators say 25-year-old Nikki Settle was driving under the influence around 10 p.m. Wednesday when she crashed her car on Interstate 26.

A witness says she then saw Settle cross the highway and walk up a hill with her son and try to throw the boy over a fence. She talked Settle out of hurting her son until deputies could arrive.

Settle is charged with DUI, driving under suspension, child endangerment and other charges. It wasn’t clear if she had an attorney.

Authorities say the boy was turned over to his grandmother.
