Gamecocks Up 17-14 On Vandy At Half

In a half where the Gamecocks barely lead, USC leads Vanderbilt 17-14 going into the locker room thanks to a 53-yd interception return for a touchdown courtesy of Brison Williams. The Gamecocks trailed a majority of the first half as Vanderbilt got out to a quick start off a Darrius Sims 91-yd kickoff return for a touchdown to open the game. Vanderbilt then added to that lead off a Patton Robinette 8-yd touchdown pass to C.J. Duncan to grab a 14-0 with 4:47 left to go in the first quarter. Robinette would leave later in the game due to a concussion and would be replaced by Wade Freebeck. The second quarter was all Gamecocks. Elliot Fry got the Gamecocks going with a 45-yd field goal to give the Gamecocks their first points of the game. Thompson would then lead a 7 play 79 yard touchdown drive capped off by a 29-yd touchdown pass to Demiere Byrd to pull within four. The Gamecocks would then capture their first and only lead of the game with 23 seconds left to go in the half off a Brison Williams’ 53-yd pick six. Dylan Thompson is 11/17 for 124 yards and 1 TD. Pharoh Cooper saw a lot of first half action as he hauled in 6 catches for 73 yards.
