(WOLO) LEXINGTON, S.C., — ” five years have gone by and i still don’t have any answers.” That’s 1 thousand – 8 hundred 25 days Debbie Powell has been trying to make sense of the murder of her then 21 year old son – Andrew. ” I spoke with him earlier that night and he wasn’t feeling good. apparently somewhere around 11 o’clock somebody kicked in the door and beat and then shot him to death.” According to Lexington County Sheriff’s it may have been committed by at least several people, one of which police believe her son may have known. But with evidence just about as cold as the case itself – Powelll says there’s not enough proof to put anyone away for it. ” these people are still on the loose. they are out there on the street. it’s extremely frustrating to know that people are just having a good time at my sons expense.” Powell says immediately after Andrew”s death she called police daily for updates – then weekly. but as time continued to progress the case has not. As the 5 year anniversary approaches with just as few answers as she had then – Powell doesn’t have to look far for strength to continue searching. Her living room now covered in wall to wall photographs – of their visits to church – mother son hiking trips – all happier times spent with the young man she still calls her baby. The only thing left behind – are these memories and wounds she says time still hasn’t healed. ” it will never go away. i am so determined to get justice fro my son. whether it’s five years, ten years, or fifteen years i will get justice for him.” Debbie has started a Facebook page where she updates pictures of his son hoping it will not only keep his memory alive but also solve his murder.
