Charleston apartment building destroyed by fire

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — A 16-unit apartment building has been destroyed by fire in Charleston.

Authorities said the fire at the Bridgeview Apartments was reported about 10:30 a.m. on Monday. A maintenance worker was taken to the Medical University Hospital for smoke inhalation but there were no other injuries.

About 50 rescue workers swept the building and then a roof collapsed. Authorities said a second sweep of the building confirmed that there were no residents inside.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
