Final SC governor’s debate set for Greenville

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – The five candidates for governor in South Carolina are meeting for a debate for the last time before next month’s election. Republican Gov. Nikki Haley, Democratic challenger Vincent Sheheen and independent Tom Ervin will join two minor party candidates Tuesday evening at Furman University in Greenville for the hour-long debate. It will be televised on various stations across South Carolina. None of the candidates are scheduled to be together again before the Nov. 4 election. According to archives of The Associated Press and statewide newspapers, the two debates are the fewest the major party candidates for governor have had in the past 20 years. Ervin and Sheheen wanted more debates and some that didn’t include Libertarian Steve French and United Citizens candidate Morgan Bruce Reeves.
