SC Takes Step Forward in Gay Marriage

(WOLO) COLUMBIA,S.C.– ” i’m so excited.” Mouthing the words love you one South Carolina couple is barely able to contain their enthusiasm over the Federal court same sex injunction. The couple in the center of this legal fight is all smiles, and with good reason – Colleen Condon and her fiance’ Nichols Bleckley have finally heard the words they’ve been waiting for. “the motion for the summer judgement is granted.” Right here in black and white Federal Court Judge Gergal made it clear, the state has been prevented from enforcing any laws that aim to stop same sex marriage or interfere with their quote ” fundamental right to marry.” ” we’re just relieved that marriage equality has come to south carolina today. we always expected this. of course there was a chance it could have fallen down differently.” And if state Attorney General Alan Wilson has his way….it still might. he released a statement concerning the ruling saying quote: ” “Today’s ruling comes as no surprise and does not change the constitutional obligation of this office to defend south carolina law, including, but not necessarily limited to, appeal to the fourth circuit. therefore, we will immediately appeal to the fourth circuit.” ” it’s not surprising that Governor Nikki Haley and Attorney General Alan Wlison have done this. They seem to forget we’re part of the with a loss this time – but state attorney wilson still has a week to file an appeal. But until he does Bleckley and Condon say they’re happy some progress is being made in the fight for equality not just for them – but for the state. The state’s attorney has until November 20th at noon to file that appeal.
