Authorities Investigate 2 Deaths in Cowpens

COWPENS, S.C. (AP) _ Authorities are investigating the deaths of a retired Spartanburg County sheriff’s deputy and his wife. Coroner Rusty Clevenger tells local media outlets that 68-year-old Rex Miguel Scott and 44-year-old Lisa Kay James were found inside their home Tuesday afternoon. Deputies had been sent to the home to do a welfare check and found the bodies. Clevenger has not said how the two died. But the coroner said in a news release that officials “do not feel there is a living person responsible for these deaths.” Sheriff Chuck Wright was friends with Scott and was the best man at Scott’s recent wedding.
