Bamberg County Hospital to end inpatient care

BAMBERG, S.C. (AP) — Bamberg County Hospital has decided to end inpatient care and concentrate on its emergency room and outpatient services.

The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg (http://bit.ly/mSmpqg) reports that hospital trustees voted earlier this week to phase out inpatient operations over the next two months.

Hospital Administrator John Hales says most of its business is now generated from its ER as well as outpatient services like radiology, rehab, X-ray, laboratory and physical and respiratory therapy services.

Hales says none of the hospital’s staff of roughly 60 people have been laid off, and the hospital hopes enough employees retire or decide to leave so they don’t have to let anyone go.
