COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Several fire departments from area jurisdictions converged in downtown Columbia for a parade to spread their message of fire safety and prevention. October 9-15, 2011, is Fire Prevention Week nationwide, and local safety officials are getting the word out in the Midlands. Monday morning, fire trucks from Sumter, Lugoff, Casey, West Columbia, Lexington and Fort Jackson joined the Columbia-Richland Fire Department in a parade to bring awareness and attention to safety. The 15th annual parade kicks off observance of Fire Prevention Week 2011: Protect Your Family from Fire. While the event focuses primarily on home safety, local business owners tell ABC Columbia they will also use this week to safeguard their establishment against fire.
