SC Teen Bit By Rabid Raccoon

ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) _ South Carolina health officials are warning Anderson County residents to stay away from wild animals and not try to keep them as pets after a teen was exposed to rabies by a raccoon. The Department of Health and Environmental Control said Wednesday that the teen boy was bitten by the raccoon when he tried to pick the animal up in the woods and carry it home. Health officials say the boy is under a doctor’s care. DHEC says this is the ninth confirmed rabid animal in Anderson County this year, and the 88th confirmed case in South Carolina.
