Former Midlands Deputy Pleads Guilty To Assault

Richland Co., (WOLO)- A former Richland County deputy pleaded guilty Wednesday to handcuffing a female soldier in a Columbia restaurant. Paul Derrick pleaded guilty to third degree assault. Off duty at the time of the incident in October of 2013, Derrick got into an argument with a woman at buffalo wild wings on Devine street. Cell phone video captured him putting the woman in handcuffs and berating her. The woman was a soldier stationed at Fort Jackson. Derrick was fired from the sheriff’s department following the incident.
