COLUMBIA, S.C (WOLO) Over the last two months at least four cab driver’s have been victimized by their patrons. The increase in violence that has sometimes led to injuries or worse, has some taxi cab driver’s taking more precautions. David Mitchell, with Capitol City Cab says he has been driving cabs for thirty years. After a few close calls of his own he had to realize that the money he might make on a potential job, wasn’t nearly as important as the safety he might give up to give a ride to someone that is suspicious. Now Mitchell, and other cab driver’s like him say they plan to be more aware of where they agree to take jobs and who they agree to give a ride to. Mitchell says, driver’s are allowed to refuse certain fares if they feel uncomfortable. It’s a move more driver’s say they may now be taking advantage of.
