Cops: Man confesses in Berkeley strangulation
MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) — Bond has been denied for a man charged with strangling a 53-year-old woman found dead in her home.
Authorities say 52-year-old David J. Penn of Bonneau (Bah-NO) Beach was in court Monday on a murder charge.
Kathleen Chrastina was found dead in her Moncks Corner home on Saturday. Coroner Bill Salisbury says the woman was strangled, but it wasn’t clear when she died.
In court Monday, Chrastina’s nephew said the woman had hired Penn as a handyman to do some remodeling at her home.
Authorities say Penn confessed to killing Chrastina. He is set to appear in court Dec. 9, and arrest records say he has been convicted twice for criminal domestic violence.
