Clover man sentenced to 4 years for killing friend

YORK, S.C. (AP) — A York County man has been sentenced to four years in prison without parole after admitting he killed his friend in December following an alcohol-fueled argument.

The Herald reports (http://bit.ly/oVEowd ) 48-year-old Bryon Dailey of Clover pleaded guilty Friday to manslaughter in the Dec. 29, 2010, death of 40-year-old Joseph Hughes.

Dailey called police about 7 a.m. to report he’d shot his friend, five hours after the shooting.

Clover police responded to the home where the friends had been drinking heavily. Dailey said he awoke on the floor in a puddle and thought Hughes had urinated on him. An argument escalated, and Dailey claims he shot Hughes once in self-defense.

Prosecutors say Dailey cleaned up the scene, burned some items and put Hughes’ body in his truck bed before calling police.
