Fire destroys church in Georgetown
GEORGETOWN, S.C. (AP) — A fire has destroyed a church in Georgetown.
No one was hurt in the fire that was reported at the Greater St. Stephen A.M.E. Church shortly before 7 a.m. Sunday.
Georgetown assistant fire chief Bill Johnson says no one was in the 114-year-old wooden building when the fire started.
Johnson says the roof and walls collapsed shortly after firefighters arrived.
He says the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Rev. Carl Anderson says the congregation plans to rebuild.
