Prosecutors Seek Death Penalty Against Mom in Toddler Death
DARLINGTON, S.C. (AP) _ Prosecutors in South Carolina want to seek the death penalty against a Hartsville woman charged with killing her 21-month-old daughter in 2013. Authorities told media outlets that a notice of intent to seek the death penalty was filed Wednesday for 23-year-old April Dixon. The Darlington County coroner reported Madison Dolford died from a gunshot wound to the upper body. The move comes after prosecutors announced in December they were seeking the death penalty against Timothy Sanders, who is charged with murder in the toddler’s death. According to arrest warrants, Sanders and Dixon conspired to kill the girl. Court papers say the defendants are eligible for the death penalty because the toddler was killed for something of value at the request of another person.
