DHEC Cracks Down on Bath Salts

Monday afternoon DHEC board members met by conference call and unanimously voted to ban the use, sale and manufacturing of bath salts and synthetic marijuana which is now considered a controlled substance through out the state. Friday the FDA voted to outlaw the substance that contains dangerous chemicals officials say people have been using to get high. A rash of incidents here in South Carolina forced local and state officials to take another look at the product they now call ” an imminent public health threat.” The new ban on 8 types of bath salts and synthetic marijuana will allow local law enforcement to now make arrests and bring charges against violators on the local level. Stores still containing the substances have been asked to remove them from store shelves immediately and turn them into their local police departments.
