WASHINGTON,D.C. (WOLO) — In a move to fight ISIS, President Obama today announced he’s sending 450 military personnel to Iraq. The Commander in Chief says they will train, advise and help Iraqi troops and Sunni tribes’ fighters. These troops will join just more than 3,000 American servicemen and women currently stationed in Iraq. The U.S. is also sending weapons to Sunni and Shia tribes. The hope is that a new Sunni uprising, similar to one that happened in 2013, will occur, but this time, aimed at ISIS fighters. The White House says President Obama approved the move after a request from Iraq’s prime minister. The new troops will work alongside those already established at four training sites.
